Translate with AI
An artificial intelligence (AI) can translate your posts and pages for you. It doesn’t publish anything: each translation is saved as a draft linked to the original, so you can read it, adjust it and publish it when it’s ready.
Everything on this page is optional. LingoPress works fine without AI; you just translate by hand.
1. Connect an AI
Section titled “1. Connect an AI”Go to LingoPress → AI translation and choose a Translation provider.
WordPress (Connectors): the simplest
Section titled “WordPress (Connectors): the simplest”It appears if your site runs WordPress 7.0 or later. It uses the AI service you connected in Settings → Connectors, so you don’t paste any key in LingoPress.
- When it’s ready, you’ll see the word Connected.
- If it isn’t connected yet, the Open Settings → Connectors button takes you there.
Your own key: Claude, Gemini, OpenAI or GroqCloud
Section titled “Your own key: Claude, Gemini, OpenAI or GroqCloud”- Create an account on the website of the company you choose. The screen tells you where: for example, console.anthropic.com for Claude or aistudio.google.com for Gemini.
- Copy the API key they give you. It’s a long code that works like a password: don’t share it.
- Paste it into the key field (for example Anthropic API key) and click Save AI settings.
That company charges for each translation according to its prices.
Model and Reasoning: leave them as they are
Section titled “Model and Reasoning: leave them as they are”The Model field chooses which version of the AI translates. Provider default uses the one LingoPress recommends for translating. The Reasoning setting only appears with some models; leave it on Low (recommended for translation). Change them only if you know you need to.
2. Tell the AI about your site
Section titled “2. Tell the AI about your site”In the same tab, in How the AI translates:
Site context. One or two sentences about what your site is about and which words could be misunderstood. It’s what improves the translations the most. For example:
Fitness blog with workout and nutrition guides; “muñeca” always refers to the wrist, never to a doll.
Glossary. Fixed rules, one per line:
sentadilla = squatBallesDevword = translationmakes the AI always use that translation.- A word on its own makes the AI leave it untranslated. Useful for brand and product names.
Click Save AI settings. The rules apply to the translations you make from now on; they don’t change the ones you already have.
3. Translate one post
Section titled “3. Translate one post”- Open the post in the editor and save it first, if it’s new.
- In the Language box, under Translations, click ✦ AI translate next to the language you want.
- You’ll see the progress there: Queued…, Translating… and, for long posts, Translating… section 1 of 3.
- When it’s finished, Edit translation appears. Open it, read it and click Publish when you’re happy with it.
You can keep working or close the page: the translation finishes on its own, and you can follow it in LingoPress → Queue.
What the AI translates
Section titled “What the AI translates”- It translates the title, the text and the excerpt.
- It copies the featured image.
- It assigns the categories and tags in the other language, if you’ve already translated them. Translate your categories first, so your translated posts are filed correctly.
- It doesn’t translate other data some plugins add to the post, such as the SEO title and description from Yoast SEO or Rank Math. Fill those in yourself in the translation.
Translate many posts at once
Section titled “Translate many posts at once”- Go to Posts → All Posts (or Pages).
- Tick the posts you want to translate.
- In Bulk actions, choose Translate to English (AI) (or the language you need) and click Apply.
The translations are prepared in the background, two at a time, while you keep working. Each one is saved as a draft.
The queue
Section titled “The queue”LingoPress → Queue shows how your translations are going: how many are Pending, Done or with Errors. Next to each finished one, View draft opens it.
- WordPress works through the queue when your site gets visits. If your site is quiet, click Process pending now to move it forward.
- If the AI service is busy or the connection drops, LingoPress tries again on its own, up to 3 times.
- Retry failed tries again the ones that ended with an error, and Clear finished tidies up the list.
When you change the original
Section titled “When you change the original”If you edit the text of a post that’s already translated, its translations are marked as out of date:
- A ⚠ appears in the language columns of your post list.
- Inside the translation, a notice says that the original changed, with a Re-translate with AI button.
To find them all, use the ⚠ Outdated translations filter in your post list.
Only changes to the main text count. Editing only the title or the excerpt doesn’t mark the translations as out of date.
If something goes wrong
Section titled “If something goes wrong”| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| No API key configured for the AI provider. | Paste your key in LingoPress → AI translation, or check that the connector is working in Settings → Connectors. |
| The AI provider is busy right now… | Nothing: the translation waits in the queue and LingoPress tries again on its own. |
| This content is too long to translate all at once. | The AI’s answer was cut off. Try another Model, or split the post into two. |
| The AI model declined to translate this content. | Some AIs refuse certain topics. Try another model or provider. |
| The model didn’t return usable data. Try another model. | Choose another Model and try again. |
| Translation failed. | Click Retry. If it keeps failing, see the error in LingoPress → Queue. |
